Plan Your Seaside Vacation

December 13, 2021 | by Shelley Kehm

Whether you’re in search of a luxurious weekend getaway, an outdoor family adventure or a fun getaway with your pup, Seaside has you covered. But don’t wait to plan your trip, as dates fill up fast at this popular destination. We’ve put together a few itinerary ideas for those who want to plan ahead for the best trip possible.

Meredith Lodging’s “Guest House”

For an Upscale Escape

Seaside has several upscale hotels for discerning travelers. The SaltLine Hotel offers modern rooms, a saltwater pool, a boutique-style fitness center and on-site spa services. Located next to the Necanicum River, the award-winning River Inn at Seaside aims to please with well-appointed suites and an indoor saltwater pool. For more space and privacy, a vacation home rental is a great option too.

After a great night’s sleep, head to the historic Seaside Golf Club for nine holes or relax with a facial at Seaside Massage and Spa. Downtown’s boutiques will draw in window shoppers, including the homemade chocolates from Phillips Candies, designer European and Pacific Northwest apparel and gear at C&R Mercantile, and the decadent Coastal Pine or Oregon Marionberry lotions at Beach Soap and Candle Seaside. For art and home furnishings,  Fairweather House & Gallery and TigerLily Gallery offer continually changing selections. When you’re feeling peckish, discuss the day over a plate of garlic-pesto steamer clams and a glass of soave at Nonni’s Italian Bistro, or watch the sun set over the ocean at Maggie’s on the Prom over plates of sumptuous Pacific Northwest seafood.

For a Coastal Adventure

No matter where you stay in Seaside, you’re always close to surf, sand and adventures galore. The rooms at Lanai at the Cove are perched over Seaside’s most popular surf spot. Closer to downtown, Ashore Hotel offers eco-friendly rooms, free bicycles, a heated indoor pool and sauna, and a wine bar with charcuterie boards and other noshes.

Kick off your day with breakfast arepas at globally inspired Osprey Café or a fresh bagel sandwich from Bagels by the Sea and then check out the surf at the Cove. If the waves look good, Seaside Surf Shop rents surfing gear. If hiking is more your style, lace up and hit the Tillamook Head Trail. The trailhead is located near the Cove, and the 6.3-mile one-way or 12.6-mile out-and-back hike follows in the footsteps of adventurers Lewis and Clark.

If you’re traveling with your family, High Life Adventure Park has adrenaline-filled aerial challenge courses for adults and kids. Prom Bike Shop rents funcycles that you can ride on the beach and family-sized surreys. After your adventures, recharge with a Muddy Sasquatch specialty coffee drink from Burly and the Bean, and then grab some killer street tacos at Una Ves Mas or a Seaside Cowboy pizza with pulled pork and jalapenos at Angelina’s Pizzeria.

Inn at the Prom

For Travel With Pups

Seaside loves your dog almost as much as you do. Dog walkers strut their stuff along the iconic 1.5-mile Promenade, and leashed pets are always welcome on the Tillamook Head Trail. Pet-friendly lodgings — including Hillcrest InnInn at the Prom and Hi-Tide Oceanfront Inn — are located steps from the sand, which is a nice perk for Fido.

After your morning fetch session, leash up and walk to Dough Dough Bakery for a chocolate-tahini roll and a cup of Sleepy Monk coffee to go. Pop into the adjacent Beach Books, where leashed dogs are welcome, and then head next door to Beach Puppy and pick up a new rain jacket or toy for your pooch.

For dinner, both Seaside Brewery and Ruby’s Roadside Grill have great outdoor seating options for four-legged friends. Grab a chair by the fire pit at the Brewery and enjoy a hearty burger and a pint of locally crafted beer. Ruby’s even serves up a beef patty for your pooch from the special canine menu. Or venture over to the drive-thru at Grizzly Tuna for excellent local albacore fish and chips … and your pup can score a treat from dog-lover owner Brian, who keeps a container ready and waiting.

and so much more!
