Great Breakfast Spots in Seaside

October 25, 2022 | by Margarett Waterbury

Osprey Cafe

Breakfast! It’s the most important meal of the day. And when you know where to go, it can also be the most delicious. Seaside offers plenty of options, whether you take your latte and bagel to-go or sit down to a steaming plate of biscuits and gravy. So before you head out for a full day of beachcombing, hiking, kite flying, crabbing, or just sitting back and watching the waves, wake up and smell the coffee at one of Seaside’s great breakfast establishments. Here are a few to get you started:

Hearty Start at the Seaside Golf Club

You don’t need a tee time to enjoy breakfast at the Seaside Golf Club restaurant. Meals are served in the historic “Par-Tee Room,” which was built in 1954 and was once one of the most happening social clubs in town. Today it’s open to all who want to fuel up with hearty dishes like steak and eggs or biscuits and gravy — or something sweet like a crispy Belgian waffle — before hitting the green. You might even find seasonal specials featuring Oregon ingredients like Dungeness crab or razor clams.

Vegetarian Delights at Ocean Bakery Cafe

Located inside the Best Western Plus just steps from the Prom on the north side of town, the Ocean Bakery Cafe is one of Seaside’s hidden breakfast gems. Vegetarians will find plenty to love here, including quinoa oatmeal made with Bob’s Red Mill grains and sweetened with brown sugar and cinnamon, and a hearty vegan panini made with an Impossible breakfast patty and plant-based cheddar. An assortment of house-baked pastries makes it easy to grab something to go if the beach is calling.

Breakfast Classics at Pig ’N Pancake

This iconic Oregon diner now has six locations, but Seaside’s, which was founded in 1961, is the original. Since then, generations of beachgoers have tucked into Pig ’N Pancake’s pillowy pancakes and delicate blintzes within these storied walls downtown — and now’s your chance to join in the fun.

Slide into a comfy booth seat and choose from a full menu of American favorites — think crispy hash browns, buttery toast and eggs all the ways you like them. There are also a handful of only-in-Oregon specialties, like razor clams and eggs or strawberry pancakes featuring Oregon berries. Thick-walled mugs of bottomless coffee underscore that timeless diner vibe. After breakfast, browse the attached Heron’s Nest shop for quirky souvenirs and gifts.

Global Offerings at Osprey Café

The cozy, wood-shingled Osprey Café is a local favorite on the south side of town, just a quick walk up Avenue U from the end of the Prom. Independently owned by chef Joshua Bokish, Osprey brings the flavors of the world to Seaside.

There are plenty of morning comfort-food choices, but adventurous eaters should choose one of the internationally inspired dishes, like arepas — Venezuelan corn cakes that are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside — served with your choice of eggs, or nasi goreng, an Indonesian rice dish served with vegetables, shrimp, chicken and a sunny-side-up egg. There are also teddy-bear-shaped pancakes for the little ones. Later risers can pop by for lunch, which features  a creative menu with offerings like local oyster po’ boy or pork belly bahn mi sandwiches.

Breakfast on the Go

Trailhead calling your name? Rather than sitting down for breakfast, swing in to Bagels by the Sea. Whether you like your bagels sweet or savory, this casual spot serves quick breakfasts either at the counter or drive-through window. Choose from 18 different bagel flavors, eight different cream cheese flavors, and a wide array of meats and vegetables. If you need a little extra sugar boost, local favorite Dundee’s Donuts is just two blocks away — and not much tastes better than a crumbly glazed buttermilk bar enjoyed at the summit of the day’s hike. And for a creative caffeinated concoction to go with, check out Seaside’s cozy coffee houses.

and so much more!
