How to Plan a Romantic Stay in Seaside

January 3, 2019 | by Shellie Bailey-Shah

Plotting your Valentine’s Day plans? This year swap the heart-shaped box of chocolates and grocery-store flowers for an escape to Seaside, a city with a long history as a coastal retreat for lovers. There is, of course, a lot to keep active couples busy — hiking, biking, paddling and yes, long walks on the beach. But Seaside also has everything you need to plan a truly special trip for two. You can check into an adults-only bed-and-breakfast, treat your loved one with a massage and take a walking tour of the city’s wine tasting rooms. Here’s a step-by-step guide to going in style.

Step 1. Book a room at a charming boutique.

First, check into a B&B that’s off limits to the kids — Gilbert Inn, set in one of the oldest homes on the Oregon Coast. This historic property is situated just steps from the beach and offers 11 unique rooms plus a cozy fire-pit area. Enjoy a scrumptious breakfast each morning served alongside a cup of freshly brewed coffee from artisan coast roaster Sleepy Monk. Don’t forget to try one of the house-made scones. Before arrival, you can reserve a romance package, which includes a fresh bouquet of flowers from a local shop, chocolates, wine glasses and sparkling cider.

The newly renovated Coast River Inn also offers romance packages that include a bottle of wine, a long-stemmed rose, premium chocolates and even rose petals scattered on the bed. The Coast River Inn has a more modern vibe, with brightly-colored rooms to match the rainbow-inspired mural on the side of the building. If you book early enough, you could snag the king room featuring a two-person jacuzzi. When you’re ready to explore, hop on the complimentary beach cruisers and bike around town.

Search for even more lodging options here, including properties that offer ocean-facing and pet-friendly rooms.

Step 2. Unwind with a day of wellness and wine.

Plan ahead for a special day spent at the spa and jumping between Seaside’s tasting rooms. Schedule a massage for two at Healthy Hub Massage & Wellness or Shear Pleasures Salon & Spa, where you can choose from relaxation, hot stone or deep tissue treatments. Then dedicate a few cheery hours to wine tasting — conveniently on foot and within walking distance of your hotel. Sip local vintages at one of Seaside’s three tasting rooms: Naked WineryBuddha Kat Winery and Westport Winery.

Step 3. Celebrate with dinner at a local restaurant.

Seaside has a reputation for comfort food: pubs, breweries, pizzarias. But up the ante for a romantic night out. There are few better options than the beachfront Maggie’s on the Prom, where the kitchen is helmed by award-winning Chef Brad Dodson. Your fine-dining experience comes with ocean views from nearly every table, indoor and out. Maggie’s menu focuses on local ingredients and sustainably sourced seafood — and it’s very popular, so call ahead for reservations. Another fantastic spot for a romantic dinner is Nonni’s Italian Bistro, a small Italian eatery that does not accept reservations but is worth the wait. It’s the ideal place to recreate that scene from the movie “Lady and the Tramp,” complete with red-and-white checkered tablecloths. The spaghetti and stuffed meatballs here are, well, delizioso!
