Guide to Spring Events in Seaside

February 12, 2019 | by Shellie Bailey-Shah

If you think Seaside is simply a summertime destination, get ready to adjust your mindset! Seaside offers something for all visitors all year-round, and spring is no exception. From world-class whale watching to Lewis and Clark history to a brew fest showcasing more than 70 frothy favorites, it’s worth planning a spring trip to Seaside.

1. Go for the Brews – All 70 of Them!
(March 16, Noon-6 pm)

Make it a St. Patrick’s Day weekend to remember by attending the 10th annual Pouring at the Coast Brewer’s Festival. Held at the Seaside Civic and Convention Center, you can sample pints from more than 30 breweries – 70 different beers in all. Plus you’ll enjoy a wide selection of food and live entertainment. Wear your green, and if you decide to do an Irish jig, we won’t stop you!

2. Lend a Hand on the Beach
(March 23, 10 am)

Start your weekend in Seaside by joining locals and visitors alike for the SOLVE Beach Cleanup. Do your part to keep Oregon’s beaches healthy and reduce the impact of trash on marine wildlife. Volunteers typically collect around 72,000 pounds of debris along the Oregon coastline on this single day. You don’t need to sign up in advance. Just meet at the Turnaround. SOLVE will provide gloves and bags.

3. Watch for Whales
(March 23-31)

Looking for a spring break getaway? Head to Seaside for Whale Watch Week and see Gray whales – plus possibly Humpbacks and Orcas – migrating north along the Oregon Coast. Volunteers will be positioned at 24 Whale Watching Spoken Here locations to help you spot these giants and answer any questions that you may have. The closest spot to your Seaside home base is Ecola State Park, just a 15-minute drive south.

4. Learn about Local History
(March 28, 6 pm and April 25, 6 pm)

Calling all history (and beer) enthusiasts! Join the Seaside Museum and Historical Society for its free series on local history. In March, author and weatherman George Miller will discuss the effects that weather had on the Lewis & Clark expedition. In April, Fort Clatsop ranger Sally Freeman shares the impact of some lesser-known women on the expedition. The talks are held at the Seaside Brewing Company (861 Broadway).

5. Get Spooked and Love It
(March 29-31)

Are you intrigued by the paranormal? Seaside has a bit of a reputation for being home to many haunted sites. It’s also home to the Oregon Ghost Conference held at the Seaside Civic and Convention Center. It’s a weekend of “ghosts on the coast” with speakers, classes, parties and tours… if you dare!

6. Play to Win
(April 26-28)

Is Bridge your game? Then join fellow card sharks for the 72nd ACBL American Regional Bridge Tournament  at the Seaside Civic and Convention Center. For information on sessions and hotel rates for participants, click here.

and so much more!

SOLV Beach Clean Up

When I look at our beaches I don’t see garbage. I see a breathtaking coastline, and I think how lucky we are to have such pristine beauty right in our own backyard. I believe most beachgoers, both locals and tourists, are conscientious about disposing their refuse properly after a day playing on the beach. So why do we have the SOLV beach cleanup twice a year?
