HISTORY & HOPS at Seaside Brewing Co., Presented by the Seaside Museum

HISTORY & HOPS Presented by the Seaside Museum
Thursday, January 30th, 2025, 6 pm at Seaside Brewing Co. (851 Broadway)

History & Hops is a series of local history discussions hosted by the Seaside Museum on the last Thursday of each month, September through May, at Seaside Brewing Co. The event is free to attend, and everyone is welcome to join in the fun!

A BRIEF HISTORY OF SEASIDE’S WATER DEPARTMENT
To kick-off the New Year, Seaside Museum’s very own Emily Halverson will be presenting a brief history of Seaside’s Water Department.
The first water system in Seaside was built in 1904, about 40 years after Portland’s first system. Seaside was a primitive town in the 1800’s and many people did not have indoor plumbing until the 1920s. Emily will be sharing history compiled by Benny T. Davis, Seaside Signal excerpts, and other fun trivia, touching briefly on the Seaside Fire of 1912.

Emily Halverson has been the Seaside Museum’s Administrative Assistant since June of 2022. She became interested in the Water Department subject after stating that the “restroom at the museum is too big and empty, there should be an exhibit in there”. While the museum is still working on getting a bathroom exhibit put together, Emily is looking forward to sharing many interesting facts about the early plumbing (or lack thereof) in Seaside.

Come early to ensure a seat at a table and take advantage of Seaside Brewing Co.’s delicious menu! History & Hops is supported by the Seaside Museum, the Seaside Public Library, and Seaside Brewing Co. Preserving Seaside’s History since 1974, the Seaside Museum & Historical Society is a non-profit educational
institution with the mission to collect, preserve, and interpret materials illustrative of the history of Seaside and the surrounding area.

The museum is open Wednesday – Saturday from 11 AM – 4 PM.
