Feed Your Mind, Body and Soul in Seaside

October 14, 2019 | by Michelle Kehm

Seaside is more than its well-earned reputation for fun and shopping along famed Broadway Street. It’s also home to pampering spas, top-notch yoga studios, wine tastings and soul-searching walks on the beach. Treat yourself to a Seaside weekend wellness escape — and discover how good you can feel.

Check in at one of Seaside’s charming inns, such as Inn at the Prom or the historic Gilbert Inn — the renovated Victorian home that was the original dwelling of Alexandre Gilbert, the mayor of Seaside from 1912 to 1916 who is credited with establishing the city’s Promenade, developing the business district now known as the Gilbert Block, and helping the city rebuild after a massive 1912 fire. Take a stroll along the 100-year-old Prom, which stretches for 1.5 miles along the beach. Gaze out at the mighty Pacific. Smell the salt air. Fall asleep to the sound of the ocean.

The next morning, start your day by walking to a yoga or meditation class at Seaside Yoga on Broadway and refuel with an amazing superfood smoothie at Rise & Grind, a new drive-through coffee shop right off the highway on Roosevelt Drive. After your sun salutations, nourish your body with a fireside breakfast at Finns Fish House. Their Seaside omelet is filled with Oregon Dungeness crab and is edible bliss.

Next, let the healing treatments begin. Seaside is home to a thriving wellness community, and bodywork professionals abound. If your shoulders feel tight, visit At the Water’s Edge on South Holladay Drive and let one of their masseuses work their magic. They even use pain-relieving and CBD oils to help with the healing process. Seaside Massage and Spa on Broadway Street offers hot-stone massages and organic facials in a zen-like setting. For the ultimate stress reliever, try their four-handed massage, with two therapists working on you at the same time. If acupuncture is your thing, Ancient Health and Healing will rebalance your qi.

After your bodywork, and maybe a mani-pedi from Studio 7 Salon, float into the Westport Winery and sample a flight of award-winning Pacific Northwest wines. You’re probably feeling pretty good by now, so why not pick up a kite at Seaside Kites, located in Westport Winery, and head to the beach to let your inner child soar? Along the way, stop at Dough Dough Bakery for a treat, and visit Beach Books next door to pick up that title you’ve been wanting to read.

Later, stroll back to town for an incredible meal that won’t bog you down. Tora Sushi Lounge is known for its fresh fish and “omakase”-style (chef’s choice) dinners, while Angelina’s Pizzeria & Cafe offers fresh-tossed vegetarian pies for another light option. Head back to the beach and watch the sunset, or cap your evening with a movie at the Times Theatre & Public House. Before you rest your head, breathe in the moment and reconnect with yourself. Namaste.
