Seaside Lifeguards – Kicking off the Summer Season

May 26, 2013 | by Nate Burke

This Memorial Day Weekend marks the beginning of the beach season with the annual summer staffing of the lifeguard tower located just off the turnaround. Seaside boasts one of the few lifeguard towers on the Oregon Coast, making our beach one of the safest and most popular areas on in Oregon for summer ocean escapades. Our lifeguards aren’t your stereotypical slow-motion Hasselhoffs either, but experienced watermen and waterwomen who have a keen knowledge of our unique coastal characteristics.

The Seaside Lifeguards operate from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day. They provide surf rescue capabilities, basic first aid, help keep our beaches clean throughout the summer months, and can also provide helpful tips about when and where the safest spots are to play in the surf. The tower in front of the turnaround serves as their central command where they branch out and patrol the sands up and down the three mile stretch of Seaside’s beach. Our lifeguard team is equipped with wet suits, rescue surf boards, and fins for swift mobility in the water. While they are all about making our beach a safe environment for summer fun, they’re also excellent approachable ambassadors and welcome your questions.

So if you need one more reason to trek down to Seaside and luxuriate on the beach, the additional safety factor of our savvy lifeguard team makes for a persuasive case. Besides, what’s beach culture without our bronzed water warriors?

See you in Seaside!
